Netflix and Vista Media Center

Microsoft recently recently released/pushed out a new add-on for interacting with Netflix, allowing for the viewing of “instant” movies from within the Media Center 10ft. UI.

One quirk that you may run into is that videos are not playing after installation. You might need to break out the keyboard, as Silverlight will have opened a dialog behind the Media Center window asking you to enable protected content. Once that hurdle is crossed, it should be smooth sailing.

Netflix Shipping Back Online

by liquidpooled on Aug.16, 2008, under Netflix, News

Netflix seems to have found the cure for its current shipping problems and has started shipping again. Netflix was down…

by liquidpooled on Mar.26, 2008, under Netflix, News

In case you didn’t notice, Netflix was down for 11 hours on Monday. While most people probably did not even notice, this did manage to affect shipping of movies. Any movie that was scheduled to go out on Monday was delayed until Tuesday. While Netflix has not disclosed what caused the outage of their site (which apparently effects other facets of their business, including the shipping centers), they have made a conciliatory offer.

This morning, the following email from Netflix was sitting in my inbox:

The great thing about this is that Netflix offered a 5% discount to all of their customers, not just those that noticed the site was down.  A company that recognizes when it has done something wrong is a rare thing these days.  Now, wouldn’t it be nice if every company paid a late fee when they were in the wrong?
